Contraindications for Spinal Energetics & Breathwork
Your safety and well-being are always my top priority. Different styles of work — whether Spinal Energetics or Breathwork — bring different levels of activation to the body, which means some health conditions may require alternative approaches or additional care.
This information applies to all sessions (in-person, online, group, or 1:1). Please take a moment to review and, if any of these apply to you, check in with your healthcare provider before booking.
Contraindications for Spinal Energetics
Spinal Energetics is a powerful practice that works with both the body and energy field. While deeply supportive, it may not be suitable in certain circumstances, including:
Pregnancy & postpartum — especially during the 1st and 3rd trimesters, and within 3–6 months postpartum
Children under 12 years old
Severe mental health conditions (e.g. bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis)
Use of medications that strongly affect brain chemistry (antidepressants, anti-anxiety, antipsychotics)
Recent physical injuries, fractures, or surgeries
Neurological conditions (epilepsy, history of seizures)
Cardiovascular issues (heart disease, high blood pressure, aneurysm history)
Respiratory conditions (severe asthma)
Recent psychiatric hospitalisation (within the past 3 years)
Other medical conditions that may limit your ability to safely engage in physical or emotional release work
Contraindications for Breathwork
Breathwork covers a spectrum of practices — from gentle and restorative through to Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB), which is much more activating. Contraindications depend on the style being practiced.
Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB):
The Deep Exhale and similar sessions are centred on CCB, which is powerful and intentionally activating. It is not suitable if you have:
Pregnancy
Detached retina or glaucoma
Epilepsy or seizure disorders
Asthma (unless managed and you have an inhaler with you)
Uncontrolled high blood pressure
Cardiovascular disease or heart conditions (including prior heart attack)
Stroke, TIA, or other neurological conditions
Family history of aneurysms
Current use of prescription blood thinners
Severe osteoporosis
Severe mental health conditions (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis)
Recent psychiatric or emotional crisis hospitalisation (within the past 10 years)
Any other condition that may be impacted by intense breathing or emotional release
Gentle & Restorative Breathwork:
Calming, grounding styles of breathwork generally have fewer contraindications and can be a safe alternative when CCB is not recommended.
My Commitment
Your honesty in sharing your health history helps me create the safest, most supportive experience for you. Please remember that I am not a medical professional, and these sessions are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions. Always consult your healthcare provider if you have concerns.
Working Together
If any of the above applies to you, please reach out. We can explore whether a private session or gentler approach may be more supportive right now. My role is to hold integrity and ensure you feel safe, seen, and cared for — so together we can find the best path forward for your well-being.
